In July, Carlisle Events in partnership with Carlisle Auctions, announced the Bill Miller Collection and auction as a featured element of the Fall Carlisle Collector Car Auction (September 29-30). As part of this auction, Mr. Miller, co-owner and co-founder of Carlisle Events, will be auctioning 20 collector cars (many original and with low mileage), while also offering a treasure trove of parts, merchandise, collectibles, literature, and more. The automotive part of the auction is happening at 3 p.m. on September 29 at the Carlisle Expo Center (100 K St.), but it’s the collectibles and merchandise on September 26-27 (1188 Spring Rd.) at 10 a.m. daily that require your immediate attention!
Across the country, flea markets and swap meets alike are packed with items that one person has enjoyed or utilized for a period of time, only to end up on a table to be sold for the next person to do the same with. Mr. Miller’s life-long collection of items has been stored away and in most cases never opened. As such no one has seen them, and they haven’t been available to anyone for years.
"This is stuff that nobody's seen in 30-60 years,” said Miller. “This is the interesting thing. These are items that haven't been to swap meets across the country. This is all fresh stuff that I've had for all these years."
After a private preview tour of the merchandise by Mr. Miller, it became abundantly clear how literal his comments were about the pristine, originality, and uniqueness of many of these items. The room includes boxes of toy cars that dealerships would give a customer when they bought a real sized version of that car, a new and never fired late ‘80s era engine from a Corvette Challenge car, ‘70s era AMT Snow Sled with trailer, a boat motor, vintage scuba gear, literature, automotive emblems, automotive promo reels, slides, books, porcelain and neon signs, bikes, Hess trucks, posters, and more. For music lovers there are records and record players, 8-track and cassette tapes with players, and CDs too. Have an 8-track player but looking to play a cassette tape? There’s a converter for that too.
A brief video tour and interview with Mr. Miller showcasing the items and their history is available by way of the Carlisle Events YouTube channel and more details about the auction are available at CarlisleAuctions.com.
The in person only merchandise sale is being backed by Elmer Murry Auctions. Preview times for the collectibles are 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the 26th and 27th. In addition, those interested in bidding can register in person during the preview time slots. There is no cost to register to bid, no fees associated with the sale, and no reserves. Some items may be sold in bulk, while others will sell per item. Payment is expected by the winning bidder prior to the removal of items and at this time, cash or check are the confirmed methods of payment. Limited free parking will be available at the 1188 Spring Rd. facility, but ample/additional free parking options exist less than 1/4 mile north by way of two Carlisle Events operated parking lots.
